Shinpu-Ren has competed on the USKA tournament circuit for over twelve years. In that time the students and instructors have accumulated numerous State, Regional, National and World Titles. Shinpu-Ren has found the USKA to be an exceptionally well run and organized tournament circuit, open to all styles, yet predominantly hard-style systems. Kyoshi Gary is also a certified judge for the circuit.
USKA sanctions tournament's in numerous states around the country, and Shinpu-Ren enjoys competing at many of them. Although we encourage occasional tournament competition it is not the main focus of the school. It is used as a means of comparison for students to measure their skill levels, and to teach sportsmanship, fun and camaraderie in competition.
Prior to major tournaments that the school does attend, special time is set aside to prepare for competition, in addition to regular class time. Instructors give a great deal of individual attention to students who plan to compete. Shinpu-Ren has found competition to be a useful and insightful tool for our karateka.
